Missions

As a fire exists in burning...
...so the church exists in mission.

The Wilmington United Methodist church is very active in mission work.  Over the years our members, young and old, have traveled across the country and around the world doing Christ's work.

Red Bird Mission Trip: Our Junior Youth Group travels to Red Bird Mission in Kentucky twice each year.  They collect clothing, furniture, coats, and other items that can be sold by the mission to fund their outreach and school.

Sr. Youth Group Annual Mission Trips: Our Senior High Youth Group is working hard to cover the country with mission work. They have worked on an Indian Reservation in Oklahoma, reconstruction/repair sites in New York, gutting Katrina-ravaged homes in New Orleans, and a painting project and wheel-chair ramp for homes in Bay City Michigan.

Christmas Angel Tree: Each Christmas our Jr. High Youth Group coordinates the Christmas Angel Tree program. Each year you can select an angel from the tree, shop from their wish/needs list (printed on each angel) and bring them to the church all wrapped up and labeled. The Jr. Youth will take care of the rest. If you would like to help an angel, but aren’t able to shop, just give the money to Tari Mabry and the Jr. Youth will do the leg work.

Sock Drive for the Homeless: The Jr. Youth Group holds a sock drive each spring for the homeless shelter. Over the years they have collected thousands of pairs of socks to warm the feet and hearts of the homeless in our own community.

Food Barrel for the Homeless Shelter: The Wilmington United Methodist church has an ongoing collection for canned food for our local homeless shelter. You’ll find the collection basket in the lower hall of the church, under the staircase. Please help us to continue to feed those less fortunate.

Your Father’s Kitchen Cooking Team: On the 4th Thursday of each month we have a cooking team that plans and prepares a meal at Your Father’s Kitchen for the needy in our community.   There is a collection basket in the lower hall for the food that is needed each month. Please contact the church office if you would like to help with this mission opportunity.
